Kandem Leuchten – function and beauty in Bauhaus' design tradition
Germany's oldest lighting brand is closely tied to big names in German design history: At the "Bauhaus" school in Dessau, many "Kandem Lights" have been designed by Marianne Brandt and Hin Bredendieck between 1928 and 1933 under the supervision of Professor László Moholy-Nagy.
The company behind the brand name "Kandem" (reg. 1914) was founded in 1889 in Leipzig as the "elektrotechnische Fabrik von Körting und Mathiesen (K & M) mit Spezialität auf Armaturen für elektrische Beleuchtung" and was one of the leading lighting manufacturers in Germany until World War II.
In recent years, a small selection of Bauhaus-Designs have been re-created under the label "Kandem retro", which we are proud to present here.
